Phil: You are honest but it has not touched the whole of your life.
If you are preaching Jesus or Lubricants or how to buy real estate with no money down then you are a marketing rep and you are not being a human being.
As soon as you lay your hands on a conversation to steer it then it’s a pitch and you’re not a human being, you are a marketing rep.
You asked about character and the question is deeper.
You asked me if you had any character and the answer is you do not for the simple reason that you do not regret anything.

Bob: Are you saying I do not have any character until I do something I regret?

Phil: No Bob, I’m saying you have already done plenty things to regret. You just don’t know what they are.
It’s when you discover them, when you see the folly in something you have done and you wish that you had to do it over but you know you can’t because it’s too late so you pack that thing up and you carry it with you to remind you that life goes on. The world will spin without you. You really don’t matter in the end. Then you will attain character because honesty will rush out from inside and tattoo itself across your face. Until that day, however, you can not expect to go beyond a certain point.”
